“Say Something”… A Comedy Minus Time

Maddy is a stand-up comedian and owner of her own comedy club. The story opens three months after her experiencing a horrible tragedy. She then loses the will to perform and her club declines because of this. When her brother re-enters her life, it begins a series of events that will ultimately end up bringing her to her knees. Drowning in depression, she must find the will within to just keep going.

The seeds of this film are taken from the real life experiences of co-writer, producer and actor, “Briteny Barber”. A year after establishing a comedy club and bar in downtown Everett, Washington, she met Ryan McCoy and began collaborating with him on several artistic endeavors. When Ryan suggested they make a movie together, using his resources and ability, that’s when the two of them came together and started working on a script. They decided to craft a story around what they had - a comedy club.

Six months later, they would begin production, bringing a skeleton crew up from Los Angeles and filming for ten days straight, in March of 2025.

The budget on this film was minuscule, at best. But, from restraint, often comes great creativity. For example, there is a karaoke sequence in our film, where characters sing different songs on stage, karaoke-style. We could not afford to license songs to use, so Britney and Ryan simply wrote and produced three original songs and uploaded them to YouTube to use.

Several performers in the film are improvisors that Britney often works with, so we leaned on this during their scenes, allowing room for improvised dialogue, a lot of it making it into the final cut.
